Weekend Shows We Like
Kim and I went out to see Thurston Moore at the The Goat Farm last night and realized we didn’t share our concert picks for the week with you. But you knew that Thurston Moore was the only thing that mattered, right? Just kidding. I’m a little loopy from the lack of sleep and an early meeting at the “day job” (aka, the awesome job).
So for this weekend we like the following options:
Thursday - The Earl - The Jealous Sound, Young Orchids, Turn Down Service - Thursday is the weekend, right? I don’t know anything about The Jealous Sound, though they seem to think I should based on their website’s bio page: “If you’re here, you pretty much know the story. But we’ll put up some new words on the subject soon for you.” But I do know that locals Young Orchids and Turn Down Service are fantastic bands that you must see.
Friday - Wonderroot - The Vasco Boys. We’ll be playing a newly re-recorded track from their singer guy Kyle Brooks on this month’s podcast. These guys are my favorite new folky band from Atlanta.
Saturday - North River Tavern - lordy, it’s almost in the ‘burbs, but Sodajerk is playing there, and as one of Jenn’s longtime favorite locals bands it’s hard to miss any of their shows.
Over at 529 Cusses is having their CD release party. If you haven’t seen them yet, they put on a great live show (I once drove to their hometown of Savannah to see them. Or maybe that was just for the Wild Turkey/PBR combo at the Jinx…either way).
So there ya go. So Happy It’s Thursday. Maybe I can grab a nap at lunch.
<3 y’all,
-Jenn
This Is the Sound is a podcast by Kim and Jenn. We pick a theme, talk about the theme, play music we love based on that theme, and hope that you end up loving this music, too. We're from Atlanta, so we like to brag on our city and the awesome music our neighbors around town are creating. Sometimes we talk to them on the podcast, which rocks. You can contact us at thisisthesoundpodcast at gmail.com.
