This Is the Sound is a podcast by Kim and Jenn. We pick a theme, talk about the theme, play music we love based on that theme, and hope that you end up loving this music, too. The Happenstance is Atlanta’s “Rock Lottery”. 30 musicians arrive early in the morning to The Earl, bands are formed by drawing names out of a hat, songs are written, practiced, and performed the same night for a captivated audience of music lovers and fellow musicians.
In this episode, listen to learn how The Happenstance got started, how it works, who it benefits, and we’ll talk about some of our favorite moments through out the years.

This year’s Happenstance show takes place December 8, 2012 at The Earl in East Atlanta. It’s $8 unless you bring some canned goods for the Atlanta Community Food Bank and then you can get in for $5. The Happenstance also benefits Sweet Relief.

I’ll be honest, I made this mistake with Superpill. I didn’t cultivate our web presence outside of Facebook until it was too late. When we posted about our new songs being released, very few of our fans saw our Facebook posts about it, therefore never knew we had new music out. It’s not just your tiny local bands this happens to either. I follow Holly Golightly as a friend and as a page and I had no idea there was a new Holly Golightly and the Brokeoffs album out. Facebook is a fun place to connect, but as a news source it’s not reliable.
I still prefer signing up to a mailing list to make sure I get updates about bands I love. And bands don’t forget to send out to your mailing list if you’re offering one. I made that mistake, too, which was silly. [disclaimer, I work for an email company and I’m biased]

Hey there. It’s been quite the month for Jenn and Kim. Jenn got knocked out with a back injury and Kim was out having a blast at SXSW, so we took a little time off.
We’re putting together our next episode to be released some time in April. We’re thinking a lot about Change and how it affects us as creative people.
In the meantime, we highly recommend the Sing for Your Super Club songwriter series at the Star Bar. It’s an intimate night with some of your favorite rockers, stripped down to their songwriting elements. A good time was had last month and will be had tonight.
